Research Axes
Governance and the Anthropocene
This research axis investigates the connection between the Anthropocene — understood as a geological era defined by humanity’s capacity to directly shape planetary dynamics — and what may be called “planetary politics.” These are diverse issues, each with its own structure and logic, yet deeply interconnected at a global scale. New information technologies and evolving patterns of natural resource use add layers of complexity to these challenges. Profound societal transformations, alongside accelerated and unregulated urbanization — particularly in the Brazilian context — drive debates on sustainability governance and concepts such as ecosystem vitality.
Global Powers
This axis examines the international insertion strategies of superpowers (the United States and China), great powers (the European Union, Russia, and Japan), and middle powers (including Brazil, South Korea, India, and Mexico) across their political, economic, defense, and security dimensions. Equal priority is given to the study of multilateral institutional arrangements pursued by these actors, such as BRICS and the G20.
Global Development
This axis pursues cross-cutting research on themes including international development cooperation, migration, racial and gender equality, youth, population dynamics, territoriality, environment, sexuality, and indigenous and traditional communities — examined through their connections to the dynamics of international politics and the global economy.

The Center’s research axes are developed through four active research groups, bringing together faculty, graduate students, and international collaborators around shared scholarly agendas.
