About Us

The Center for Global Studies sponsors research strategies on contemporary International Relations, encompassing projects on Governance and the Anthropocene, Global Powers, and Global Development. Operating within the Institute of International Relations at the University of Brasília (UnB), the Center bridges the research and training efforts of specialized groups across Brazil and abroad, engaging undergraduate and graduate students in a collaborative and intellectually rigorous environment.

The Center serves as the operational base for interinstitutional integrated research projects, supported by leading Brazilian funding agencies — including CNPq, CAPES, and FAP-DF — as well as international partners.

Our research is organized around three core axes. The Governance and Anthropocene strand investigates the intersection between planetary-scale human influence and global politics, addressing sustainability governance, ecosystem vitality, and the growing complexity brought by new technologies and accelerated urbanization. The Global Powers strand examines the international strategies of superpowers, great powers, and middle powers, as well as multilateral arrangements such as BRICS and the G20. The Global Development strand takes a cross-cutting approach to themes such as development cooperation, migration, racial and gender equality, indigenous communities, and the relationship between population dynamics and the global political economy.

These axes are developed through four active research groups: ASIALAC, RIBRASIL, the Research Group on European Studies, and the Research Group on the International System in the Anthropocene and Global Climate Change.
